I started this blog a little over a month ago and have been trying to figure it all out on the fly. I came across a Blogging 101 course and thought it would be a good idea to sign up for it. The first assignment is to write an “Introduce Yourself” post so even though my blog has already begun, I am going to step back for a moment and introduce it again.
I come from a family with several accomplished artists but I, personally, can not draw a stick figure. Creating beautiful images with my camera is how I express myself artistically and I find it very fulfilling when I produce a stunning image. I enjoy many types of photography, floral, landscape, sports, black and white. I shoot with a DSLR, a point and shoot, and an iPhone. I use both Lightroom and Photoshop to process my images as well as plug-ins like Nik and Topaz.
I have had a life long interest in photography but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I have been able to turn it into a serious hobby. The beauty of digital photography is that you do not have to own the most expensive, fanciest equipment to create fantastic images. All you need is a good working knowledge of the camera that you do own and the willingness to insert your point of view into your images. Each scene offers limitless possibilities so it is your vision that creates the beauty. Comments such as “wow, you must have a great camera” have no relevance. It is the maker of the image that created the beauty not the camera.
I have spent a good deal of my time teaching myself various tips and techniques and love sharing what I have learned with others (and vice versa). I have found that with learning one new tip or technique every week or so, my photography has improved dramatically in a relatively short period of time. This slow and steady course also makes the learning easier and long lasting. My hope is that this blog will assist others with becoming better photographers and also connect me with other like minded photographers who in turn can help me to improve.
